# The Hidden Word App — Privacy Policy

**Last updated: July 23, 2026**

This Privacy Policy explains how the **Hidden Word** mobile app (“the App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), operated by Land Tech Web Designs, Corp., doing business as “TheHiddenWord.org,” handles information when you use the App. It describes only the mobile app. Your church’s own website and WordPress installation may have its own separate privacy practices.

We do not show ads in the App, and we do not use analytics or tracking SDKs that follow you across other apps or websites.

## The short version

– Your sign-in credentials (your church WordPress username and an Application Password) are stored securely in your device’s keychain and are only sent, over an encrypted HTTPS connection, to the church site you select.

– We do not operate a separate “Hidden Word” cloud account. Your account lives on your church’s WordPress website.

– Most content (Bible reading, lessons, verse of the day, memorization, Ask, cohort) is served by the church website you choose. The church directory is served by thehiddenword.org.

– Preferences, reminders, and cached content stay on your device.

– You can delete your account from inside the App at any time.

## Information the App handles

**Account credentials.** When you sign in, you provide your church WordPress username and an Application Password (a revocable, app-specific password — not your main WordPress password). These are stored in the device’s secure keychain (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore) and are transmitted only to the church site you have selected, over HTTPS, to authenticate your requests. We do not transmit or store these credentials on any separate Hidden Word server.

**Selected church and preferences.** The App stores the church site URL you select, along with preferences such as your chosen Bible translation and faith tradition, on your device. When you are signed in, some preferences may sync to your church site so your experience is consistent.

**Content you request.** Features such as Bible reading, lessons, Verse of the Day, Study Finder, memorization, the cohort leaderboard, and “Ask a Question” send your requests to the church website you have selected so it can return the requested content. For “Ask a Question,” the text of your question is sent to your church’s site, which may use its configured AI service to generate a response. Answers may be cached on your device so you can view them offline.

**Church directory.** When you search for a church or use the default hub, directory queries are sent to thehiddenword.org.

**Reminders.** If you enable practice reminders, they are scheduled as local notifications on your device. Reminder settings are stored on your device and are not sent to us.

**Safety reports and blocking.** If you report AI content or another cohort member, the report (such as the reason, any details you add, and the reported user’s identifier) is sent to your church site, where site administrators review it. If you block a cohort member, that choice is stored on your device to hide that member from your view.

## How information is used

Information is used to authenticate you, deliver the Scripture and study features you request, remember your preferences, send reminders you have enabled, and review safety reports. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.

## Where your information goes

– **Your device:** credentials (in the secure keychain), preferences, cached content, reminder settings, and your local block list.

– **Your selected church website:** authenticated requests and content, Ask questions, sync of certain preferences, and safety reports.

– **thehiddenword.org:** church directory lookups.

Because content is served by the church website you choose, that site’s handling of your data is also governed by the church’s and TheHiddenWord.org’s website privacy practices.

## Data retention and deletion

Your account is maintained on your church’s WordPress website, not on a separate Hidden Word cloud service. You can:

– **Delete your account from inside the App:** open **Preferences → Account & deletion → Delete my account**. This starts deletion on your church’s site: your Application Passwords are revoked, further sign-in is blocked, and your church administrator is notified to complete removal of the user record if needed.

– **Sign out:** removes the saved Application Password from this device without deleting your account.

– **Clear local data:** removes cached content, Ask history, and pending reviews from this device.

– **Request deletion by email:** contact us at support@thehiddenword.org with the subject “Account Deletion Request,” including your registered email and church name. We will process the request and purge personal data we control within 30 days.

Some residual information may remain in routine backups for a limited period before being overwritten.

## Security

Credentials are stored in the device’s secure keychain and transmitted only over encrypted HTTPS connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take commercially reasonable measures to protect your information.

## Children’s privacy

The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

## Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
