The Context — The History
Paul wrote Galatians to churches in southern Galatia facing teachers who required Gentiles to be circumcised and keep Jewish law for full acceptance. The letter defends justification by faith alone.

Paul expressed astonishment that Galatians were deserting the gospel so quickly. After defending his apostolic call, he opened the body of the letter with the standard greeting: grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
