The Context — The History
Paul addressed the Areopagus in Athens, a city known for philosophy and idolatry. He quoted Greek poets while proclaiming the unknown God revealed in Christ and resurrection.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Paul observed Athens full of idols and reasoned in the synagogue and marketplace. Before the council, he declared God made the world and gives life, quoting poets who said 'In him we live and move and have our being.'
