The Context — The History
John 17 records Jesus' high priestly prayer before Gethsemane and the cross. He prayed for Himself, His disciples, and all who would believe through their message.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Jesus asked the Father to glorify Him so He might glorify the Father. He prayed for disciples remaining in the world, then asked the Father to sanctify them by the truth — declaring that God's word is truth.
