The Context — The History
At the Last Supper, Jesus washed disciples' feet and foretold betrayal and denial. He gave a new command as He prepared them for life together after His departure.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Jesus loved His own to the end, washing feet and teaching servanthood. After Judas left, He gave disciples a new command: love one another as He loved them — the mark by which the world would recognize them.
