The Context — The History
Micah prophesied to Judah during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah (8th century BC). He condemned corrupt leaders and false prophets while pointing to a future ruler from Bethlehem.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Chapter 5 promises a ruler from Bethlehem who will shepherd God's flock in strength. The chapter closes with God's vow to take vengeance on nations that refused obedience, ending Micah's oracle of hope and judgment.
