For this is what the high and exalted One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy: "I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.

The Context — The History
Isaiah 57 confronts idolatry and false security while promising mercy to the humble. The God who inhabits eternity and holiness does not remain distant; he draws near to contrite hearts, reviving those crushed by sin and circumstance rather than rewarding the self-sufficient.

God rebukes leaders who stray and people who trust wealth. He declares he dwells high and holy, yet also with the contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive their hearts. Peace belongs to the humble, but the wicked find no rest.
