The Context — The History
Isaiah 35 paints a highway of holiness through the wilderness for ransomed Israel. Exiles with fearful hearts needed assurance that God would come to save, transforming dry land into flourishing and enabling the lame and mute to leap and shout for joy.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
The chapter promises gladness and glory on the desert way when God comes. Messengers are told to strengthen those whose hearts tremble: be strong, do not fear, for God will come with vengeance and saving retribution on behalf of his people.
