The Context — The History
By Noah's day, human wickedness had filled the earth. In a world where violence and corruption were widespread, one man's faithfulness mattered. Ancient flood narratives were common in the region, but Genesis presents judgment and grace through the covenant God of Israel.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Genesis 6 describes a culture given over to evil, prompting God to grieve creation and resolve to act. Amid universal corruption, the narrative pauses to introduce Noah, a righteous man who walked faithfully with God and would become the means of preserving life.
