The Context — The History
Jesus debated Jewish leaders in Jerusalem during the Feast of Tabernacles. Many who heard Him were descendants of Abraham who prided themselves on freedom, yet lived under Roman rule and spiritual bondage to sin.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Jesus told Jews who believed in Him that continuing in His word would prove them true disciples. He promised knowledge of truth that liberates, after they claimed never to have been enslaved to anyone.
