The Context — The History
Shepherds in Luke represent the marginalized of first-century Palestine — ritually unclean, poor, and overlooked. Caesar Augustus had ordered a census, yet heaven announces a greater King born in Bethlehem.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Angels appear to shepherds keeping night watch over their flocks. Glory fills the sky as they hear that a Savior, Christ the Lord, has been born in David's city.
