The Context — The History
Jesus prayed in Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives hours before arrest, during Passover when Jerusalem swelled with pilgrims. Olive presses nearby may have shaped the name Gethsemane—oil press.

After the Last Supper, Jesus took Peter, James, and John deeper into the garden. He agonized in prayer while they slept; he urged vigilance because willing spirit collides with weak flesh in temptation's hour.
