The Context — The History
Haggai prophesied in 520 BC when Persian permission allowed temple rebuilding but discouragement stalled the work. Zerubbabel the governor and Joshua the priest led a small returned community.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
God challenged those who lived in paneled houses while his house lay ruined. Haggai 2:4 calls leaders and people to courage and labor because the LORD Almighty remains with them.
