The Context — The History
Psalm 33 is a communal hymn praising God's word and sovereign counsel. In the ancient world, nations trusted military might and alliances; Israel was taught that true blessedness came from belonging to the Lord who chose them as his treasured inheritance.

The psalm urges fresh praise with music and shouts, declaring that the Lord's word created the heavens and his plans stand forever. Kings and horses cannot save. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he selected as his own inheritance.
