News release · October 2026
You didn’t see it coming.
Maybe it was a conversation at the kitchen table. Maybe a text message you weren’t supposed to see. A suitcase by the door. After twenty years, or thirty, or more, the person who promised forever walked away.
And you were left holding everything. The house. The kids. The bills. The holidays. A thousand questions and not nearly enough answers.
If that’s you, or someone you love, this new study was written for you.
Introducing The Story Isn’t Over
The Story Isn’t Over is a free, 35-day Bible study for the spouse who was left behind. It won’t hurry your healing. Grief doesn’t keep a calendar. But it will walk beside you, one day at a time, toward a truth you may not be able to feel yet:
God is still here. He still has a plan. And your story isn’t over.
Five weeks, one step at a time
- Week 1: When the Ground Gives Way. Surviving the shock. Why you feel like you’re losing your mind (you’re not), how to get through just today, and what to tell the kids.
- Week 2: The Honest Ache. Grief, anger, and the wound of betrayal. Jesus wept. David cried out “How long?” You’re allowed to, too.
- Week 3: Carrying the Family Forward. The house, the money, children of every age, co-parenting with someone who hurt you, healthy boundaries, and the help you need.
- Week 4: Forgiveness and Freedom. What forgiveness is, what it isn’t, and an honest look at reconciliation: the hope of it, and what it truly requires.
- Week 5: The Story Isn’t Over. Who you are now, the years God promises to restore, waiting well, and the future He is still writing.
Each day takes about ten minutes and follows the same simple rhythm: a moment from real life, what the Word says, an honest question to sit with, one small thing to do today, and a prayer to start with when you can’t find your own words. Each week also ends with discussion questions for small groups and divorce recovery classes.
Why I wrote it
I didn’t write this from a distance. Years ago, my own marriage ended. I know the shock, the sleepless nights, and the long drives where you finally let yourself cry. I tried reconciliation. It didn’t work for my family, though I’ve seen it work for others.
What I didn’t know then was what God would do next. For years I had prayed for a wife who would open the Bible with me, pray with me, and sit beside me in church. In His time, God answered that prayer.
Today my wife and I have many friends in their forties and fifties walking through this same valley. They’re trying to manage a household alone, care for kids both young and grown, and make sense of finances and a future they never expected. That’s why this study exists.
I can’t promise your story will look like mine. But I can promise you the same God.
A few important notes
If you are in danger, your safety comes first. Nothing in this study asks you to stay in or return to an unsafe situation. In the U.S., call 911 in an emergency, or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.
If you are thinking about ending your life, please call or text 988 today. You are worth saving, and this pain is not the end of your story.
This study is not a substitute for professional care. A licensed Christian counselor, your pastor, and a local divorce recovery group can help in ways a devotional can’t. We encourage you to use them alongside this plan.
Know someone who needs this?
You probably do. Divorce after a long marriage is often a quiet pain. People sit with it in the church parking lot and don’t tell anyone. If someone came to mind as you read this, send them the link. You don’t have to say much. “I saw this and thought of you” may be exactly what they need to hear today.
