Hebrews 6:10 — New International Version (NIV) (2026-10-20)

For God is not unrighteous, so as to forget your work and the labor of love which you showed toward his name, in that you served the saints, and still do serve them.

Hebrews 6:10

Historical lead-up

Hebrews was written to Christians facing pressure and weariness. The writer urges them to keep trusting God and not drift away. Just before this verse, the writer expresses confidence that his readers will continue in the life of faith and love that belongs to salvation.

Why this verse was written

The writer wants to encourage the community to persevere. He points to their care for fellow believers as evidence of a living faith, while reminding them that God sees and remembers their service.

True meaning

The verse teaches that God is not forgetful or indifferent toward faithful love. The readers had served God by caring for his people, and they were continuing to do so. Their service does not earn God’s favor; rather, it is a meaningful expression of faith and love that God recognizes.

Living it today

Keep showing practical care, even when it feels unnoticed: listen well, offer help, pray for someone, or serve in a steady and humble way. If you feel tired, remember that God sees faithful acts that others may miss. Ask in prayer for strength to love well, and talk with a trusted person in your group about where you may need encouragement or support.

What follows

The writer urges the readers to keep showing the same diligence and to hold firmly to their hope. The encouragement is to persevere in faith rather than grow spiritually sluggish.
