Day 1: Why are you cast down?
Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him for the saving help of his presence.
This reading plan is pastoral Scripture study, not crisis counseling, legal advice, or medical care. If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number. In the US and Canada, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). Reach a trusted pastor, counselor, or doctor alongside these daily readings. Depression can linger past easy answers. The psalmist talks to his own soul.
“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God…” Honest questions and hope can share a verse.
What would you say if you spoke kindly to your own soul today?
Practice: Pray Psalm 42:5 slowly twice. God, my soul hopes in You. Amen.
