Day 1: Do not be surprised

1 Peter 4:12-13 WEB
Beloved, don't be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you, to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you. But because you are partakers of Christ's sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy.

Suffering can feel like failure. Peter says fiery trials are not strange for followers of Jesus.

“Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings…”

Have you been interpreting hardship as abandonment?

Practice: Tell God honestly how the fire feels—and that you still belong to Christ. Lord, meet me in this fire. Amen.
