The Context — The History
Psalm 73 wrestles with envy of the prosperous wicked until worship in the sanctuary reorients perspective. Asaph's confession became a community lesson: outward success without God is hollow, while nearness to the Lord is ultimate wealth.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Asaph nearly stumbled, envying arrogant evildoers at ease. Entering God's sanctuary clarified their end and his foolish bitterness. He concludes that though flesh and heart fail, God remains the strength of his heart and his portion forever.
