Psalm 8 celebrates God's majesty revealed in creation and his surprising care for humanity. In a world where nations boasted of their gods, Israel proclaimed that the Lord's name is glorious across the whole earth and displayed in the heavens above.

The psalm opens and closes with the same refrain about God's majestic name. David marvels at the moon and stars, then ponders why the Lord cares for frail humans crowned with glory and honor and given dominion over creation.
