The Context — The History
After chapters of debate among Job and his friends, God answered from a whirlwind. In the ancient Near East, storms symbolized divine power. Rather than explaining every detail of Job's suffering, God revealed his unmatched wisdom and authority over creation.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Job had demanded a hearing before God, maintaining integrity amid loss. Elihu's speeches prepared the way. Then the Lord answered Job out of the storm, opening a lengthy divine discourse that questions Job's capacity to run the cosmos and calls him to humble trust.
