The Context — The History
Ahaz faced invasion from Israel and Syria around 735 BC and refused to ask God for a sign. Isaiah spoke in Jerusalem during a political crisis that threatened David's line and national survival.

God offered Ahaz a sign of deliverance; when the king refused, Isaiah announced a sign anyway—a child called Immanuel, God with us, pointing to hope beyond immediate war.
