The Context — The History
Paul wrote 2 Corinthians from Macedonia after painful conflict with the church. He had confronted them sharply and now wrote with relief after Titus brought news of repentance.

Paul opened with praise to the God of all comfort who comforts believers in trouble so they can comfort others. He described sharing abundantly in Christ's sufferings along with comfort through Christ.
