The Context — The History
On the night of His betrayal, Jesus prayed on the Mount of Olives while disciples slept. Judas and armed guards were approaching; the cross was imminent.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
At the Last Supper Jesus foretold betrayal and established the bread and cup. He then withdrew to pray in anguish, asking the Father to remove the cup of suffering while yielding completely to God's will.
