The Context — The History
Jesus was crucified outside Jerusalem around AD 30 under Pontius Pilate. Darkness covered the land from noon to three as He bore the sins of the world on the cross.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
After hours of mockery, beating, and crucifixion, Jesus cried out in Aramaic, quoting Psalm 22: 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?' The cry expresses dereliction as He took humanity's separation from God.
