The Context — The History
Zechariah encouraged returned exiles alongside Haggai in 520 BC. His early visions addressed spiritual apathy and the need for repentance as the temple rebuilding resumed.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Zechariah's first vision showed horsemen reporting that the nations were at rest while Jerusalem lay unrestored. The angel asked how long God would withhold mercy, leading to this call for the people to return to the Lord.
