The Context — The History
After feeding five thousand, Jesus teaches in Capernaum's synagogue. Manna in the wilderness and Passover themes echo as he claims to be God's sustaining provision for eternal life.

The crowd seeks more signs; Jesus redirects them from perishable bread to the bread God gives from heaven. He identifies himself as that bread come down to give life to the world.
