The Context — The History
Jonah's prayer from the fish reflects temple-oriented piety and psalm language. Nineveh was Assyria's capital—a brutal empire Israel feared—making Jonah's mission politically and spiritually charged.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
After running from God's call to Nineveh, Jonah was swallowed by a great fish. From Sheol-like depths he prayed, confessing that the LORD heard when human hope seemed drowned.
