The Context — The History
Jesus spoke these words on the night before His crucifixion, in an upper room in Jerusalem during Passover. His disciples were anxious about His departure and uncertain about the future under Roman occupation and growing hostility from religious leaders.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Thomas had just asked how they could know the way to the Father. Jesus responds with one of His seven 'I am' statements, claiming exclusive access to God and offering Himself as the path to eternal life.
